His previous books have been done in very small private editions; this one was produced for the Japanese market in a still small edition and has enlgish only at the end where the butterfly names, dates and locations are listed for the 74 photos, some covering two pages. There are also several stylized beautiful paintings included. Since the book is for the Japanese market it reads "backwards" for english readers. see scan of photo. Disbound and missing cover; old string binding is still strong on remaining text & lithos - bound with 8 separate pieces of string. There is foxing and some staining - lithos have stained tissue paper protectors, text is very good paper is only very lightly tanned. *see scan of plate 35* I will scan other examples for interested buyer.

The book is in Very Good ++ condition, the corners are moderately bumped, some wear at the top and bottom of the spine, front endpapers are slightly tanned. The book is signed by W. J. Holland at the end of the preface, the binding is tight and straight, the pages are clean.
